Performance with musical saws in trees and a Jack Russel
Alvanley Woodland
Tonewood is a site specific, collaborative performance piece, set in Alvanley woodland for an exhibition Above and Below.
Performers sat on different branches of this tree, playing experimental sounds using a violin bow and saw. It created an unsettling and uncanny soundscape which echoed through the woodland exhibition for visitors to discover.
Something wonderful which came out of doing this performance was that on the opening night, a dog in the audience started joining in, mimicking the saw sounds. It became a strange duet between the performers and the dog, howling. This unexpected environmental reaction was pivotal in sparking future projects involving interspecies collaboration.
